Referral Skills

For - 5th Year Medical Students

Delivered by - FY2 doctors and above

A core skill of a ward doctor is to handover patients and make referrals: to ensure a patient's safety and reduce the stress of a difficult referral process, brand new FY1s need to  be able to act confidently, prioritise the important points, and be empathetic to the situation of colleagues. The Referral Workshops offer the opportunity to make realistic referrals to real clinicians in a safe and relaxed environment. The course caters to final year medical students and involves two sessions and a take-away piece of work; sessions are led by an FY2-level doctor or above. By the end of the course, students will have attempted face-to-face, telephone and written referrals, as well as having the opportunity to hear examples of good and bad referrals.
