Clinical procedural skills for undergraduates in NHS Lothian is led by FY2 doctors and above. This programme provides an opportunity to facilitate the skills training of 6th year medical students in achieving competence in procedural skills such as cannulation , arterial blood gas sampling, catheterisation and blood culture sampling.  This session is normally delivered on base wards or receiving units with 1 or 2 medical students per 2 hour session. This intensive approach to training has been shown to be very successful in helping develop competence in these core procedural skills. Checklists of core requirements to achieve competency are provided. This is a fun and very rewarding session to deliver.
