The Clinical Educator Programme (CEP) is a CPD programme of workshops and online modules in clinical education, for clinicians and academics who teach Edinburgh University medical students. Priority is given to medics, but the programme is also open to other health professionals who teach Edinburgh medical students.

It’s easy

The CEP has four levels that build on one another so you can use the workshops that you completed for the Introductory Level towards Level 1, Level 1 towards Level 2 and so on, as long as you complete the Programme to Level 2 within 3 years.

  • Introductory level - basic intro to key concepts in clinical education, suitable for FY, CT, ST1-3 trainees or other inexperienced clinical educators

  • Level 1 - This level is suitable for those developing their educational practice including named Clinical Supervisors who require to be GMC recognised and approved as postgraduate trainers.

  • Level 2 - This level is suitable for those who would like to develop further as clinical educators and those who require to be recognised and approved as Named Educational Supervisors (postgraduate); Lead coordinators of undergraduate teaching; senior staff responsible for overseeing medical students' educational progress (Module organisers and local teaching leads; Year directors; theme heads ... you should hear from the Medical School if that includes you)

  • Level 3 - Our highest level.

Participants who complete this level will be eligible to carry 20 SCQF credits at postgraduate level 11 towards the University of Edinburgh Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) or the MSc in Clinical Education via Recognition of Prior Learning.

Level 3 is also accredited by the Higher Education Academy and the Academy of Medical Educators.

You can complete the whole programme or simply select the workshops that are relevant to you. The workshops are delivered throughout the year in South East Scotland, at a wide range of venues. And best of all, it's FREE!

All our workshops are CPD accredited by the Royal Colleges.

The maximum time allowed to complete the programme up to Level 2 is normally three years, but could be completed sooner (within 12 months).
