The great divide? Perspectives on Mental and Physical Health
The mind and body were once viewed as separate entities, such as proposed by Cartesian dualism. Our perspective is different now and there is a more unified sense of ‘mental health’ and ‘physical health’. However, viewpoints do still differ widely and this impacts upon how we treat mental and physical health problems. Every member of society, including doctors and patients, has their own sense of what is ‘physical’, what is ‘mental’ … and what is ‘both’! This workshop will give participants the opportunity to discuss their own perspectives and think about what patients with mental health difficulties really want.
