Dr Alan Jaap is a consultant Physician, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, Edinburgh Medical School. Alan completed his postgraduate clinical training in Glasgow, Exeter and Edinburgh and as a visiting fellow in Endocrinology at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. Having had a career long interest in medical education, he has held a number of senior roles in both undergraduate and postgraduate training. He is currently director of Year 6 MBChB, and academic lead for the St Andrews – Edinburgh – Alberta International Medical Programme. Alan has particular interest in the areas of assessment of clinical competence and the process of transition from medical student to new doctor.
